Teacup Dachshund Dog Breed Temperament:
The American Kennel Club’s breed standard for the Dachshund dog breed state that “the dachshund is clever, lively and courageous to the point of rashness, persevering in above and below ground work, with all the senses well-developed. Any display of shyness is a serious fault.” The Teacup Dachshund’s body language does not give you the slightest inclination that they have any problem with their size. As is with many small hunting dogs, the Teacup Dachshund will often times challenge a dog much larger than themselves. Over indulged Teacup Dachshunds may become snappy or extremely obstinate. Proper training is a must for the Teacup Dachshund Breed. Visit Cute Puppies For Sale’s comprehensive dog breeder directory to find cute Teacup Dachshund puppies for sale and Teacup Dachshund dog breeders near you.
If raised without being socialized at a young age, Teacup Dachshunds can become aggressive or fearful. If you have a rescued Teacup Dachshund chances are they have pre-existing bad behaviors. With patience and time they too can overcome these unwanted behaviors. The Teacup Dachshund will require a caring owner who understands their need for entertainment, exercise, and love.

Teacup Dachshund Dog Breed Appearance:
There are three types of Teacup Dachshund’s that are classified by their coats: short-haired (called “smooth”), long-haired and wire-haired. Dachshunds come in sizes known as the standard, miniature, teacup and “kaninchen” (“rabbit”). The standard and miniature sizes are recognized universally, although the teacup and rabbit sizes are not honored by clubs in the United States or the United Kingdom.
The base of the neck slopes down to a protruding chest and a tighter abdomen, and the tail follows the line of the back. The Teacup Dachshund Breed’s nose is long with a heightened sensitive area that absorbs odors. It has skin that is loose enough not to tear while fitting into tight spaces. The Teacup Dachshund has a deep chest to allow enough lung capacity so they have the stamina to continue the hunt. Teacup Dachshund Dog Breed History and Origins:
A common nick name for the Teacup Dachshund due to their long, narrow build, are called the hot dog dog, wiener dog or sausage dog. Although “dachshund” is a German word, in modern Germany they are also commonly known by the name Dackel; in the case of the formally certified hunting and tracking rank, the name Teckel is used.
There are several opinions as to when Dachshunds were specifically bred for their purpose of badger hunting. The American Kennel Club states the dachshund was bred close to the 15th century, while the Dachshund Club of America states that foresters bred the dogs in the 18th or 19th century.

Teacup Dachshund Dog Breed Mortality:
The Teacup Dachshund dog breed is known to have back and spinal cord problems. A common disease they may contract is Intervertebral Disk Disease (IVDD). The length of their back to rib cage ratio puts strain on the vertebrae. The risk of injury may be worsened by obesity, jumping, rough handling, or intense exercise. The Teacup Dachshund dog breed is also prone to Patellar Luxation, where the kneecap slips out of place. Other Dachshund dog breed related health problems include hereditary epilepsy, Granulomatous Meningoencephalitis (inflammatory disease of the nervous system), dental issues, Cushing’s Syndrome (fatigue, hypertension), thyroid problems, allergies and Atopies (dermatitis), and various eye conditions including cataracts, glaucoma, progressive retinal atrophy.

Teacup Dachshund Dog Breed Summary:
There is more than a little bit of work and effort needed in raising a puppy. The Teacup Dachshund dog breed does require that same attention and a little more, but in the end it is really worth it. You need to be the decider though if the Teacup Dachshund dog breed is right for you.
