Teacup Chihuahua Dog Breed

Teacup Chihuahua Dog Breed Introduction:
Out of all the different types of dogs out there, big or small, the Teacup Chihuahua is the only type of dog some families will own. They like to go everywhere with you, and can be stowed away in a hand bag for camouflage. Even though the Teacup Chihuahua can fit literally into a tea cup, not just anyone should own this dog breed. Teacup Chihuahua Dog Breed Temperament:
Being naturally territorial and protective, Chihuahuas can be easily provoked to attack, and are not generally recommended for homes with small children. This does not mean that those who have children can’t have a Chihuahua. Constant and consistent handling will help them to be socialized, which is key to having an enjoyable pet Chihuahua. This should be started as soon as you get the Teacup Chihuahua puppy.
Teacup Chihuahuas absolutely crave attention, affection, exercise and being petted. The more you work with your Teacup Chihuahua the less hyper they will be, but the eagerness to please will never leave them. They have a reputation as a “yippy” dog, but that can be resolved with proper training.
The Teacup Chihuahua dog breed tends to be fiercely loyal to one particular owner, but may be attached to more than one owner if socialization has been successful. They do not always get along with other breeds, and tend to be the dominant when mixed with one or more dogs. The Teacup Chihuahua will often prefer the companionship of other Chihuahuas over other dog breeds. Though the Teacup Chihuahua dog breed is not ideal for households with children, if you are patient and calm, the Teacup Chihuahua can be a very enjoyable addition to any family. Teacup Chihuahua Dog Breed History and Origins:
The Teacup Chihuahua’s history is a puzzling one as there are many theories surrounding their true origin. The Chihuahua was used in sacred rituals as they were considered holy to Pre-Colombian Indian nations. The Teacup Chihuahua breed was also a popular pet among the upper class. The Teacup Chihuahua breed draws its name from the Mexican State of Chihuahua, where the first specimens of the breed were discovered.
Historians believe that the Chihuahua came from the island of Malta in the Mediterranean. Supporters of this theory say a very small dog with a soft spot on the head became recognized there and journeyed on trading ships through European seaports. More evidence for this theory lies in European paintings of small dogs which resemble the Chihuahua. One of the most famous paintings is a fresco in the Sistine Chapel by Sandro Botticelli dated 1492. The painting, Scenes from the Life of Moses, shows a woman holding two tiny dogs with round heads, large eyes, big ears, and other characteristics similar to the Chihuahua. The painting was finished ten years before Columbus returned from the New World. Botticelli would have to of seen a Mexican dog to have depicted an animal so strikingly similar to a Chihuahua, but that is impossible.
Both folklore and archeological finds show that the breed originated in Mexico. The most common theory and most likely is that Chihuahuas are descended from the Techichi, a companion dog favored by the Toltec civilization in Mexico. Teacup Chihuahua Dog Breed Mortality:
New owners of the Teacup Chihuahua dog breed need to have a family veterinarian picked out ahead of time. The main two infirmities are obesity and dental hygiene. The Teacup Chihuahua dog breed is also known for a genetic condition called ‘luxating Patella’. It’s a genetic condition that can occur in all dogs, old or young, slim or overweight. In some dogs, the ridges forming the patellar groove are not shaped correctly and a shallow groove is created, this is luxating patella. In a dog with shallow grooves, the patella will slip out of place sideways especially toward the inside. This will cause the leg to ‘lock up’ which gives the Chihuahua no choice but to hold its foot off the ground. When the patella slips out of place from the groove of the femur, it usually cannot return to its normal position until the quadriceps muscle relaxes and increases in length. This explains why the Chihuahua may be forced to hold its leg up for a few minutes until the muscle fully retracts. Teacup Chihuahua’s are VERY fragile dogs. It is important that when you own a Teacup Chihuahua to always be aware of where they. One missed step could be fatal to a Teacup Chihuahua.

Teacup Chihuahua Dog Breed Summary:
Small dogs need just a little more attention than do big dogs, which may surprise a few. Littler dogs have more fragile bone structures and can require more medical help over the course of their lives, but some big dogs do too. What it comes down to is how much do you know about the dog breed you’re about to buy? Maybe the Teacup Chihuahua dog breed is the one you’re looking for…or maybe not? 30. Miryam says:

What about CM/SM in this breed. I see no mention of this progressive disease that is striking this breed. The tiny heads and apple shaped skulls are the major factors. Breeding this small is just insane and any potential owner will have a life of misery should their dog ever be born with this disease.
